Welcome to Gunsight Angus! We are Garrett and Colter, brothers and 4th-generation family ranchers dedicated to breeding high-quality, high-elevation genetics. Our focus is on producing Angus cattle that thrive in the rugged, high-altitude environments where they are raised—cattle that not only perform well in these challenging conditions but also bring value to your operation.
In the spring of 2023, we acquired the registered Page Angus herd, a program with deep roots in the Laramie Valley. The Page Angus genetics have been here for over three decades, originating from the well-regarded Shamrock Angus herd. This legacy of quality genetics is what we build upon today.
Our bulls are carefully bred to ensure they work in high-elevation environments, with every cow in our herd PAP tested for pulmonary health. We focus on genetics that provide strong maternal traits, excellent carcass merit, and fertility. We are especially proud of the $M index of many of our bulls, with many ranking in the upper third of the Angus breed for maternal traits. The fertility of our herd speaks for itself, with a 97% breed-up for two consecutive years.
We take great pride in the calving ease of our cattle. Having calved through the past two springs, we can confidently say that our cows exhibit outstanding mothering ability, with strong calf vigor and no assisted births—whether from cows or first-calf heifers. Our goal is to produce cattle that are not only easy calving but also efficient and durable.
At Gunsight Angus, we focus on carefully managing the feeding of our bulls to ensure they grow steadily without being pushed too hard. Our bulls are fed a high roughage Total Mixed Ration (TMR) to achieve a controlled daily gain of about 2.6 pounds, which helps prevent joint issues and supports their long-term soundness. By avoiding overfeeding, we ensure they are in good condition without sacrificing their ability to perform and work well once turned out for breeding season. Our program is designed to produce structurally sound cattle that offer great maternal traits, fertility, longevity, and weight gain potential, all while excelling in harsh, high-elevation conditions.
We would like to extend a special thanks to the many individuals who have contributed to our program—Dean Powers, Heath Rasmussen, Colter Oie, Rose Wendel, Nick Gifford, Lex Dory, Jackson Ondracek, Billy Warpness, Dylan Laverell, Gunnar Malmstrom, and our family—JT, Kristi, and John Nunn. Without their help, none of this would be possible.
We are grateful for the support of all our buyers and sale attendees, and we look forward to continuing to provide you with the high-quality genetics you need to improve your herd. If you have any questions or would like to visit us to view our bulls or the cows that produce them, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Garrett or Colter. We would love to show you around and discuss how our cattle can work for you.
Thank you for your interest in Gunsight Angus!
